He certainly puts the Billy in Rockabilly.
Billy Bob Thornton rocked the White House Correspondents’ Jam with his band The Boxmasters on Friday night.
Musical director on the night, Rolling Stones pianist Chuck Leavell also jammed with them onstage.
In the audience were Chuck’s wife Rose Lane White Leavell, and CNN Newsroom Anchor Brooke Baldwin.
The Corresspondents Jam is one of the many parties that has sprung up around the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington.
This year’s is set to be an unusual one with the President Donald Trump set to skip it amid his frosty relationship with the press.
Thornton, who founded the Boxmasters in 2007, has always insisted he became a movie star by mistake, and that music has always been his foremost love.
Before his acting career, he played in two cover bands – ZZ Top and Creedance Clearwater Revival – and served as a roadie for many others.
During his acting career, he also released four solo albums from 2001 to 2007.
The Jam is ‘kind of a give back from us to the journalists that come with the bands and play,’ Leavell told Town and Country magazine.
‘The talent is somewhat surprising, these folks are quite good and I think it’s wonderful that they have an outlet like this…. I always enjoy on a personal level sitting in with these bands and having a good time.’
