Coastal Character Portraits at Ships of the Sea and Genre-Bending Musicians Coming to Stopover

Portraits of Coastal Characters at Ships of the Sea

This weekend it’s not only Super Bowl Sunday – it’s Super Museum Sunday, with free admission at dozens of museums and historic sites throughout Coastal Georgia, including Savannah’s Ships of the Sea Museum where you can see “Lowcountry Callings: Going With the Flow” – a series of portraits of people who work in the waters of Georgia’s coast, painted by artist Carol Lasell Miller.

Lasell Miller says these paintings introduced her to people and a way of life that is increasingly rare. “I don’t know how much longer they will be,” she said. “And I think that’s part of why the Museum wanted to capture these images.”

Lasell Miller’s portraits are on exhibit at Ships of the Sea Museum through April 2, 2017. Find details at ShipsOftheSea.org.

The music that underscored the broadcast of this story is “Forever Blue” by (sometimes Savannah-resident) Chuck Leavell from his album by the same name.
